As usual, whatever I’m journeying with in my own life aligns perfectly with the oil we are deepening with, I just said to my partner Jack yesterday, I want to work on my attitude more, I have a tendency to dip into negativity, to expect the worst, to have a distrust towards life.. and along with my other tools, this blend will support me to shift that.

How does aromatherapy work on our emotions?

I was always skeptical about how essential oils could have any real impact on our emotions.

However have you ever wondered why a simple smell can provoke a strong emotion or trigger a specific memory?

Our sense of smell is our fastest track down memory lane..I know the smell of mango poppers takes me straight back to the busy streets of India. We lived there when I was little and dad always used to get me mango poppers when we were out and about. So yum! The smell instantly transports me to this time.

Our Emotional Aromatherapy Kit™ is the perfect example of this, and as Dr Hill explains here’s why it works so well: “Essential oils are simply a mixture of volatile aromatic compounds. These compounds are able to interact with the olfactory (smell) receptors in the nose. Our sense of smell can have a profound effect on our emotions, and simply inhaling the aroma can elicit an emotional response. The smell receptors located on the upper surface of the nasal cavity make direct links with the limbic system (emotional centre) of the brain, where the scent is perceived and processed.”

Emotional Properties of Cheer

According to Essential Emotions this blend is “especially helpful for individuals who feel heavyhearted or who have been weighed down by many challenges in life. Encountering repeated trials over an extended period of time can have crippling effects, and may even create an expectation of permanent suffering with no hope of relief.”

This blend “encourages individuals who are overcome by feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. It helps restore one’s hope when they have been stretched beyond the limits of their endurance. This blend inspires faith that life will work out for the best despite difficulties and setbacks. Cheer reminds individuals there is so much more to life than hardship they are experiencing, and to determinedly hold on until they regain the hope and joy they feel they’ve lost.”

The negative emotions that Cheer helps shift are feeling weighed down, hopeless, joyless, heavyhearted, depleted and helpless.

These can be transmuted into feeling hopeful, comforted, believing, cheerful, uplifted, joyful, determined and restored.

When I tune into Cheer

When I tune into Cheer

For me it’s not about positivity bypassing, or putting a fake smile on when really I’m in pain.

Its about taking the time to really be with what’s present and loving myself in all of it.

And also choosing to consciously look for the gold or the good in situations.

Upon reflection so many of the experiences or situations I have found most painful, have lead me to some of the most beautiful experiences and people in my life.

And I remember that humans are happiest when they are overcoming challenges.

For me this conscious looking for and appreciating the gold, both in whatever I am experiencing and within myself, is crucial in feeling hope and joy.

Recently I have caught myself thinking about and saying very negative, shaming things about myself. About how I’ve handled something, or choices that I’ve made in the past, and beating myself up over what has been.

Now when I catch myself doing this. I’m taking the time to see how this really feels, tuning in, placing my hands on my own body, and then breathing, dancing or shaking it out.

Doing a reset. And choosing to then speak kind, loving words into myself.

Jack and I love our daily rituals. We wake up. Drink water, he likes to put a drop of lemon and a pinch of sea salt in his. And then do three or four rounds of wim hof. After the retention and listening to a song such as most beautiful by Oka at the end of our breath, we will then take the time to share five pieces of gold we see within ourselves and then five pieces of gold we see in each other. You could anchor this experience in by applying Cheer both before and after the breath.

We then will put a few songs on to have a dance to and do some free movement, yoga, qi gong or kinaesthetic movement.

Spending time with our feet on the earth or going for a swim at the beach or in the rock pools or spending time in nature is always a beautiful way to ground in and reconnect to ourselves and to hope.

Whenever I feel hopelessness creeping in, I choose to return to my rituals.

Remember changing your life starts with loving yourself enough to make different choices.

All we have in life really are the choices we make.

Will we react or respond.

For me the most joy comes from simplicity.

The little moments, the adventures I choose to take, the laughter I choose to make, hugs in the ocean, sitting by the fire, playing cards, belting out tunes, dancing on the back deck, my kids hand in mine, a shared joke, making food and dancing in the kitchen, snuggles under the doona.

What do you love? And how can you bring more of what you love to experience to the forefront of your life.

We have all been faced with an intense amount of challenges in the last 12 months. And sometimes all that be done is weep and feel the heaviness and the hopelessness flood us.

It’s important to acknowledge. The loss. The pain. The change. The uncertainty. The heaviness.

I don’t believe in chasing happiness. Or numbing not to feel pain.

I find the more I choose to feel what’s actually there. Rather than trying to run, numb or avoid.

The more capacity I have for joy.

No feeling ever lasts. Things are always shifting. And when I give something the space to feel acknowledged, seen and held, it shifts so much quicker.

Use Cheer to remind you of your choices, of the gold and of your capacity to create the experiences you want to have.

Cheer is a great reminder as well that so many people are looking for hope, for a light, for something good, being of service is an amazing way to feel and heal and to be reminded of the good and the gold in the world, so arm yourself with Cheer and ask yourself how can I be of service today, or who can I bring hope to today?
